Engage! This is the Key to Staying Stylishly Relevant

Imagine effortlessly turning heads, making a statement, and radiating confidence wherever you go. It's all within your reach, and it begins with one simple concept:

You MUST stay engaged.

Let's talk about style for a minute. Style is a constantly evolving, living, ever-changing thing. Style is also language. It is instant communication. Before you open your mouth, as you approach someone, what do they notice when you do this? They see your body language, how you hold yourself. They see your face, your hair, and they see what you are wearing. From these simple things, an initial impression is made about you. Like it or not, it is FACT. Every single time you walk out the door and are seen by a person, you are communicating SOMETHING. Are you communicating who you are in a way that you are comfortable and happy with?

Let's explore for a moment style as a language. We all bring our own personality, life experiences, and unique views into our style. You and I could buy the same exact blouse, but how we wear it, what we wear it with, and how we carry ourselves when we wear it will speak VERY differently about what we believe and our values.

One key element that I think isn't given enough attention is that style should speak to our values in both ourselves and in the world. It's a process that I take my Clients through because I truly believe that to develop a personal signature style, you have to understand what your goals are. Without an end in-mind, you will wander aimlessly.

When it comes to your style, when you look inside of your closet, does it feel like the YOU that you want to put into the world? Or is your closet a place of chaos? How do you feel when you put on the clothes in your closet? Do you feel happy and joyful....or do you feel frustrated and out-of-sync? Do you wear the majority of items in your closet? Or do you only wear a small handful of pieces?

If you don't take the time to explore what you want your style to be and why, you are missing out and will always feel lost inside of your closet chaos. And if you don't understand that your style must evolve like you do, you will find yourself back in that frustrated place again.

Style does take intention and it takes remaining active in developing and honing it. When you think about technology and how it is ever-changing, and so quickly, this is a great comparison to style. When it comes to technology, if you don't stay up-to-date with new changes and updates, you will quickly fall behind. You might even throw up your hands and give up. However, if you embrace the changes as they come at you, it's EASIER to keep up. You stay relevant. The same is true of style.

So how do I do this? How do I make sure I am true to myself and remain relevant? For one thing, you need to be patient with yourself! We are harder on ourselves than anyone else would EVER be on us. You have to understand that it takes time! Think of it this way: if you decide to start working out after years of not working out, you would NEVER work out for one day and expect that the following day you would be immediately stronger, would you? NO, you understand that your body has to go through a process. You may even understand that you may feel weaker, you will feel pain the next day. The reason for this is that you are actually damaging the muscle fibers when you work out, but your body quickly works to go through a repair process for those broken down fibers and then begins to BUILD new muscle protein strands.

You make physical changes with style, too. Externally your look will change, BUT it's the power of the MIND that is so key to growth you experience when it comes to style. You will learn to see things differently. You will explore yourself and pay attention to what you want to put out into the world. You will learn what feels good and what doesn't. That strength of knowledge and strength of mind around style will help shape what you show externally. When you grow your mind around style, you will be amazed by the other things that grow inside of you, too!

Know that when you start ANYTHING new, it can be hard. Over time, you get accustomed to it. And when you stop working on it, it's harder to start back up again. This is why your engagement is so important. It needs to become a part of your daily routine.

You can do this all on your own or you can call in help. How do you do this? In the form of hiring a stylist to work on your team. I'm so excited and I'm brimming with excitement to announce my NEW style membership for women called The Chic Style Society. This is a way to have a stylist on your team to keep you up-to-date, relevant, and to keep you working on your style in an easy, approachable way that is built around community.

Why Style is Important: The High Cost of Not Caring

Close your eyes. Transport yourself to a moment in time when you felt absolutely beautiful. Maybe it was yesterday. Maybe it was when you were heading to an special event. Maybe it was when you were going on your first date. Maybe it was your wedding day. When you close your eyes, think about these things: How did you look? How did you feel? What were you wearing? What was the fabric like? How did the clothes fit your body? What did your hair look like? What did your makeup look like? Were you smiling at yourself in the mirror? How long did it take you to get ready that day? Did you take pictures of yourself? What thoughts did you have when you saw yourself in the mirror? When you open your eyes, I want you to think about the last time you felt that amazing? That powerful? That beautiful?  When's the last time you cared like that? When's the last time you allowed yourself to take that long to get ready? As I shared in last week's blog ( https://stylesynchrony.blogspot.com/...

How to look stylish in your 40s (and beyond)

You're here! Congratulations because that is Step 1: Caring enough to want to make a change. Here's the thing, nothing changes if nothing changes. The biggest roadblock is if you aren't fed up ENOUGH with how you are feeling about your style (and likely yourself), you will never make a change. That's not you though, my friend, because you found this blog and opened it!  Step one is complete. Let's celebrate that! via GIPHY Here's what you already know. Style in your 40s and beyond (we will call this "midlife" going forward) is...different.  👉Our bodies are changing. Things don't sit where they used to. 👉Our priorities have changed. Most of the time, we aren't out all night at the bars. 👉Our lives have a new focus, oftentimes around our family. 👉Fashion and clothing is not typically geared toward women our age. It's commonplace for women who are in midlife to feel like they are lacking style or being left-behind, but that doesn't hav...

The Importance of a Conscious Closet (and what is it?!)

Many times as consumers, we look at our shopping habits when it comes to clothing in terms of how much we are spending, where we are spending our money and the comfort and wearability of our clothes.   These things are all relevant.   However, one area that is becoming increasingly important to consider for value-driven shoppers and for those who are concerned about the environment is the true impacts that our clothing purchases have on the future of Earth and the lives of humans living on it right now. Today is the first of a 2-part blog series about Fast Fashion versus Sustainable Fashion.  Whether you care about the environment or not, I heartily believe it is important for all of us to take a look at our decisions as consumers and understand these topics so we can make our decisions coming from a place of knowledge.  The decisions we make today will impact not just our own lives, but the lives of our children and grandchildren and cannot be ignored. Clothes cou...
