Style and Communicating "Who You Be"

Style is INSTANT LANGUAGE. Whether we like it or not, studies have shown that 93% of what we communicate is non-verbal, which includes body language, tonality and our appearance.  We can see this broken down even further in the chart below. Only 7% of the words actually coming out of our mouth are "speaking" about what we are saying.  The other 93% is your external body language and the tonality of your voice.  Your body language includes things like your facial expressions, your posture, your level of grooming, your eye contact and the clothes you are wearing on your body. These are the things that another person subconsciously uses to decide if you are credible and trustworthy, particularly if your words and your body language are not in congruence. When you break the 55% body language piece down even further, this is where we learn that clothing and grooming account for 95% of that body language piece of the pie.  With snap decisions about someone's characte...

Arriving Fashionably Early: Understanding the Fashion Calendar

Have you ever walked into a store in the cold month of February and seen swimsuits and thought, "Um, isn't it a little early for this?" or alternatively, during the month of August seen a swarm of sweaters as you are wiping the sweat beading up on your forehead from walking between your car to the store's entry door? Yep, I think we have all been there.  Today, I'm going to give you a brief outline of the Fashion calendar so you know what to expect.  Why does this matter?  Because if you want to be at the forefront of fashion, it's important to get in early before all the "good stuff" has been shopped! There is a LOT that goes into the mass market fashion timeline and if it isn't all strategic, THAT would be a fashion disaster!  To keep things simple here, I am going to talk about MASS MARKET Fashion because the rest is not what most of us shop! Step 1:  Trend Forecasting Believe it or not, trends are forecasted anywhere from 18 months to 24 mon...

5-Day Style Challenge: Why You Should Hop In TODAY!

I am starting right off by letting you know that I am now offering a program called the  5-Day Style Challenge:  Discover Your Closet's Potential .  At the time I am writing this blog, this is a free style challenge.  Once this challenge closes down on October 21st, 2023, it will be available for purchase . What is the 5-Day Style Challenge?  If you struggle inside of your closet and wear the same outfits over and over, this challenge is for you!  Did you know that studies show that most women wear only 20% of what is in their closet 80% of the time?!  That's a lot of wasted real estate!  Inside of this challenge, I am encouraging you with simple ideas that will help you create BRAND NEW Outfits with the clothes you already own!  Yes, please! This challenge is going to give you ideas and fresh eyes when you look at your closet.  Training your eye is a key to getting dressed in a creative way and this challenge does just that....

Stop Wasting Money & Create NEW with the Pieces You Already Own!

How many times have you walked in your closet and looked at all of the clothes and thought, "Today I am going to wear something new" but after about 10 minutes of trying to put together a new outfit, you just gave up and put on one of your "tried and true" outfits? This is a common problem.  Between living a busy life, not allowing ourselves enough time to be creative in our closet each morning, and not understanding the rules of style, the closet becomes a place of frustration for women.   Many times there is also a lot of guilt women have inside their closet because they see that their closets are full of clothes, but they only wear a fraction of them.  In fact, studies have shown that women wear only 20% of their closet 80% of the time.  This leads to feeling very stale in their style.  As a Style Coach™, I help guide women to create a wardrobe that they love by working with them to strategically identify their vision and to learn what to look for and ho...

How to Identify if you are in a Style Rut and What to do about it

Does your style ever feel like Groundhog's Day?   You wake up over and over again and wear the same clothes, feel "blah" about what you are wearing, and maybe have even stopped even trying?  Maybe you just feel that your clothes are "easy" and you don't want to have to think about getting dressed?  Potentially, you felt great in a style when you were younger or maybe had less weight on your body and you keep holding onto those clothes because they made you feel good?   Maybe you are unsure about how to wear the current styles for your body that just feels like an awkward stranger to you? If you are like many of us (me included), you may have been nodding as you were reading some of those questions.  That means, you may be in a "style rut". First of all, let me tell you, style ruts are quite common throughout life.  When you understand why someone might find themselves in a style rut, you will realize why they are so completely common.  ...

Summer Prints and patterns: How to Mix and Match with Confidence

There is something very fun and freeing about fashion.  It is such a fantastic way to self-express.  Yet, in my business, I find that many women are scared to try something new or scared to "stand out" by having fun with getting dressed.  I think that this is one of the reasons that women gravitate more towards Fall clothing than Spring clothing.  Fall clothes are cozy, BUT, typically are more muted in color and allow for women to "hide" from being seen a bit more.  I really want women to WANT to be seen, to have FUN getting dressed, and to love showing off who they are through what they wear. Today, I want to share about the fun you can have with Print Mixing, especially during the Spring and Summer where you where bright colors.  Mixing prints is a way to add uniqueness and dimension to your outfits.  This is where your true style can really show through. So, what IS print mixing?  Quite simply, it is mixing different patterns and prints in one ...
