Style By Personality: A Visual Explanation

Last week, I wrote a blog post titled Style and Communicating "Who You Be". I have linked it just in case you happened to miss it.  Inside of last week's blog, I explained that finding an authentic style is certainly not cookie cutter.  There is no "one size fits all" when it comes to Personal Style. I also talked about how style codes (as I refer to them) are a combination of both Yin (female energy) and Yang (male energy).  We all have BOTH, regardless of our gender. Again, if you would like to understand more before I get into this week, I highly suggest you read last week's blog if you haven't already. I will wait...

Now that we are on the same page with how your Style Personality (or Style Code) is determined, let's get into THIS week.

While we each have one masculine and one feminine energy, I thought it may be helpful to show some images of how this translates into an outfit for each personality.

The masculine energies (Yang) are:
  • Dramatic (MOST Yang)
  • Elegant
  • Natural
The feminine energies (Yin) are:
  • Romantic (MOST Yin)
  • Creative
  • Classic
As I show the outfit images, for which I have 3 looks for each, I will explain the details about what makes each outfit fit that Personality.  All clothing items are shoppable at my cabi website which is linked here.

Dramatic

Our Dramatic has the most amount of masculine energy. Dramatics love to be seen and typically hold power roles when it comes to their career.
Detour Jacket, Striped Charm Tank, Tea Time Skirt

So, what makes this look perfect for a Dramatic?  First of all, Dramatics LOVE Red, LOVE contrast, and LOVE angles and lines. The print-mixing in this look is clean and the shoes even have that puffy little bit of drama and sheen!

Knockout Pullover, Kick Back Kick Flare

Where is the drama here?  The bold color and the color block.  Again, the RED is a favorite for my Dramatic style personalities. This look is not one that can easily overlooked and my Dramatic style personalities like it that way!

Tee Up Tee, Road Trip Jacket, Trooper Pant, Tread Belt

While this look is less bold than the first two, you see that it plays up on the lines that Dramatics love and the monochromatic jacket and pant are sleek, which Dramatics also love.  The little mules have a bit of edge to them which speaks perfectly to the Dramatic.

Elegant

An Elegant style personality loves the outdoors and outdoor adventures.  They value high quality and can have a bit of a safari look to them as well.

Tropic Tank, Tranquil Pullover, Cruise Crop

This look is the PERFECT look for an Elegant. Elegant personality types love a good cozy knit and neutrals are a major go-to.  The ruffle detail and the silk-like hand of the tank are elevated style.  The cropped pants are made in a natural cotton-linen blend which speaks to the heart of an Elegant. The Loafer with the thick block heel gives them the sturdy feel they desire.

Shiver Top, Keynote Jacket, Tribute Trouser

Elegant personality types love to look dressed up, but it must be easy to move and work.  The natural blend fabric of the top with the gently pleated details around the neck and arm add a subtle nod to the elegance they crave.  The check print on the pant is going to speak directly to the heart of the Elegant. The Navy blazer has stretch and keeps the look dressy while allowing for easy movement. The wedge style ankle boot allows them to move and get things done with ease AND style.

Cavort Top, Caravan Jacket, Galaxy Cargo

The neutral palette of this entire look is very Elegant.  The jacket has those utility details an Elegant Personality loves.  It's easy to move in, which is a MUST. The top is easy and in their favorite palette. The cargos provide a relaxed ease and the belt dresses up the look.  Add in those on-trend ballet flats in a matching palette, and this look is a huge WIN!

Natural

The Natural personality style must have comfort.  They are laid back, very welcoming, and also can be creative with their style.

Lyric Blouse, Road Trip, Jacket, Harlow Jean, Be Twill My Heart Scarf

My Natural personality types love a good jean that is comfortable.  The Harlow is more of a slouchy boyfriend jean that speaks directly to the Natural personality type's heart. She still appreciates polish...so long as it's done with comfort, so the easy-fit of the blouse is perfect.  The jacket in a very "nature-inspired" hue that is also a knit is perfection while the easy twilly style scarf is low-fuss and adds a little "extra" to their outfit, because a Natural loves creativity.  The sneak just keeps things easy.

It's a Cinch Tee, Speedway Skirt, Mascot Cardigan

Denim...but in a skirt is a huge win.  This one is 100% cotton and so comfortable that it is a no-brainer.  The tee-shirt is simple, but has that slight elevated vibe with the shirring at the bust. The cardigan is neutral in color, a sweater (which a Natural LOVES) and adds personality to an otherwise bland look.  Add in the classic white low-profile sneak and our Natural is out the door.

Piece of Cake Dress, Be Twill My Heart Scarf

Yep, denim...again!  This time in the form of an easy one-and-done dress.  Toss on that simple no-fuss silk scarf again, a pair of neutral ballet flats and you have a perfectly easy, but styled look for a Natural.

Romantic

The Romantic personality style has the highest amount of Yin (feminine) energy.  She loves to pamper and be pampered.  She is all about using her senses.

Besotted Top, Ashbury Jean

Pink. Ruffles. Florals. These are the things that steal a Romantic's heart! The jeans sit at a mid-rise and she would likely tuck that blouse right in to show off her curves.  She may even love to find a white or pink belt at the waist.  My Romantic style personalities love heels, and love a flirty peep-toe and...the color...oh, the color!

Everyday Jacket, Dottie Cami, Tea Time Skirt

A soft-against her skin short skirt (she may hem it to make it even shorter!) and the delicate ruffles on that cami which will show off her bust line and curves to perfection.  Of course, she will wear the blouse tucked into the skirt because otherwise, how could she show off her body?!  Add an all-white denim jacket and tie it all together with a pretty pump that has a bit of BLING and we have a slam-dunk for a Romantic.

Printed Cherish Blouse, Palm Beach Crops, Tread Belt

The blouse in this look has the perfect blend of florals and feminine ruffles.  It also is a sheer fabric that feels nice next to the body.  Our Romantic would wear the blouse tucked into our white denim cropped jean so show her curves (are you sensing a theme here🤣), so of course, she would also want to belt that waist.  Top the look off with a gold metallic heel with an ankle strap and she is ready to walk out the door and grab some attention!

Creative

My Creative personality styles love an eclectic look.  You may find them strolling a Farmer's Market every chance they can possibly get to find new treasures to wear and decorate their homes with.

Joplin Jacket, Cavort Top, Tribute Trouser, Tread Belt

Our Creative style personality loves to print mix.  She finds it really fun, so she has paired an animal print tank back with a plaid pant and added on a striped belt to the mix!  She loves her vintage vibes, so adding the 70's inspired faux-leather jacket is the perfect icing on the cake.  The loafer that matches is also a great add to this look.  She may also find a gaggle of bangle bracelets to add to this look.

Gemini Dress, Complete Top, Ashbury Jean

My Creative loves to play with color.  The top has a beautiful ease and sheen to it, while the jean is a great wide-leg which a Creative loves (and is also on-trend and going to be for a long time ... hint, hint).  She adds a mesh dress over the top as a Duster and just lets in sway around her body as she walks.  The red flat with the animal print on it speaks to her Creative also. She can't be bothered with a belt, so her look is flowy and fun.

Pachwork Top, Cruise Crop

This look has that Bohemian vibe that my Creative personality types love.  The easy kimono sleeve with the built-in print mix is an instant-grab and she pairs it back with a wide leg, cotton-linen blend pant that is so easy to wear.  Of course, she is going to add a hat to add to the vibe of the look, but creates a bit of additional creativity by adding in that combat boot that has pearl details on it.  This is the ULTIMATE Creative look.

Classic

The Classic style personality is all about timeless style.  My Classic will always look put-together, even to run errands.  She never has a hair out of place.

Showstopper Top, Everyday Jacket, Tea Time Skirt

My Classics love, well, CLASSIC!  This Navy and White outfit is going to make her heart go pitter-pat.  It's timeless, it's put-together.  This look keeps the color palette simple with the jacket and blouse having a very similar color and the skirt is just how a classic loves to dress with clean lines.  Of course, her pump is classic and will match her skirt perfectly.

Blue Note Cardigan, Shiver Top, Tribute Trouser

Classics love pastels, so this entire look is speaking to her.  The pants have that tailored feel and the plaid print makes her feel so polished.  The slight feminine details of the top make her feel fancy and the cardigan is cropped enough that it works for her look.  She is wearing an on-trend ballet flat with a classic bow on the top and in a color that matches the rest of her look.

No Doubt Pullover, Cavort Pant, Be Twill My Heart Scarf

While a Classic tends towards a softer palette, she can't deny the vibe of this look.  A soft sweater in black (she MAY even put a button up blouse under it and pop the collar) softens the dressier trouser leg pant on the bottom.  But the bottom feels like silky luxury!  She adds a scarf gently tied around her neck or maybe even in her hair.  The classic black pump brings the entire look home!

That wraps up our looks by style personality. Did this help you get a feel for each of the personality styles and WHY they work for each one?  While several of the items repeat within different style personalities, they all work well for the outfit they were created for too.  The thing about outfit curation is that it MUST be done in totality to give the wearer the full vibe they are looking for.

So, I'm curious: which Style Personality speaks most to you?  I would love if you would comment below!

Stylishly Yours,

Why Style is Important: The High Cost of Not Caring

Close your eyes. Transport yourself to a moment in time when you felt absolutely beautiful. Maybe it was yesterday. Maybe it was when you were heading to an special event. Maybe it was when you were going on your first date. Maybe it was your wedding day. When you close your eyes, think about these things: How did you look? How did you feel? What were you wearing? What was the fabric like? How did the clothes fit your body? What did your hair look like? What did your makeup look like? Were you smiling at yourself in the mirror? How long did it take you to get ready that day? Did you take pictures of yourself? What thoughts did you have when you saw yourself in the mirror? When you open your eyes, I want you to think about the last time you felt that amazing? That powerful? That beautiful?  When's the last time you cared like that? When's the last time you allowed yourself to take that long to get ready? As I shared in last week's blog ( https://stylesynchrony.blogspot.com/...

How to look stylish in your 40s (and beyond)

You're here! Congratulations because that is Step 1: Caring enough to want to make a change. Here's the thing, nothing changes if nothing changes. The biggest roadblock is if you aren't fed up ENOUGH with how you are feeling about your style (and likely yourself), you will never make a change. That's not you though, my friend, because you found this blog and opened it!  Step one is complete. Let's celebrate that! via GIPHY Here's what you already know. Style in your 40s and beyond (we will call this "midlife" going forward) is...different.  👉Our bodies are changing. Things don't sit where they used to. 👉Our priorities have changed. Most of the time, we aren't out all night at the bars. 👉Our lives have a new focus, oftentimes around our family. 👉Fashion and clothing is not typically geared toward women our age. It's commonplace for women who are in midlife to feel like they are lacking style or being left-behind, but that doesn't hav...

The Importance of a Conscious Closet (and what is it?!)

Many times as consumers, we look at our shopping habits when it comes to clothing in terms of how much we are spending, where we are spending our money and the comfort and wearability of our clothes.   These things are all relevant.   However, one area that is becoming increasingly important to consider for value-driven shoppers and for those who are concerned about the environment is the true impacts that our clothing purchases have on the future of Earth and the lives of humans living on it right now. Today is the first of a 2-part blog series about Fast Fashion versus Sustainable Fashion.  Whether you care about the environment or not, I heartily believe it is important for all of us to take a look at our decisions as consumers and understand these topics so we can make our decisions coming from a place of knowledge.  The decisions we make today will impact not just our own lives, but the lives of our children and grandchildren and cannot be ignored. Clothes cou...
