Bad Style Habits and HOW to break free from them

Last week #OTB, I shared some of the most pervasive and key Style Habits that I want women to pay attention to and break free from.  It is easy to fall into a "stuck" feeling with style.  Because it is a living thing and is always evolving, one day we turn around and feel very dated.  It is common.  I liken it to technology.  If you don't keep up with what is happening, one day you wake up and have NO CLUE how to use it.  As a Stylist I'm here to help!  (And if you would like to go back and read last week's blog, it is linked here ). Because I love my readers, I didn't want to drop in and say "Hey!  You have lots of style bad habits.  Good luck with that!", so as promised, this week I want to discuss HOW you can break the hold that these bad habits have on you.  Whether you see yourself in one or multiple of these bad habits, you CAN break the chains of them! HOW to Break Free Just like with ANY habit that you want to break, the fi...

Don't Let These Bad Habits Derail Your Style

Evolution.  This has come up as a recurring theme for me personally recently.  Between launching my business and my self-growth journey to a changing body and a changing dynamic inside of my family, the one commonality is EVOLUTION.   We all go through it at different times and my journey of evolution will be different than yours with 100% certainty.  The one thing that is certainly assured for all of us is that where we are today will be different in many ways from where we are a year from now.  That is LIFE.  It changes, it evolves and we can't stop the fact that change will happen, even if we want to. This week, I want to embrace taking the reigns in the evolution we are experiencing when it comes to style, specifically.  If you have been with me for awhile, you know that I wholeheartedly believe that your style (or lack thereof) says a LOT about you and who you are.  I don't mean it in an icky way, but truly, it is how we are first seen a...

Fashion Myths: BUSTED!

Fashion and Style can seem like a foreign language to many women.  I hear all the time from Clients that they aren't quite sure which "fashion rules" are true and which ones are no longer relevant.  Today, I am here to clear things up and help you navigate this topic so you have no question!  Lets hop right into it! Myth #1 - You Can't Wear White After Labor Day.   Oh dear goodness, this one is so false.  This "rule" came from back in the 1950's when more wealthy, affluent individuals decided that wearing white after Labor Day meant you could afford to take end-of-summer vacations.  So, those who couldn't afford such vacations, thus should not wear white.  Okay, so this is the first crock of you-know-what.  The second thing to know about this is that we all know that white reflects light and doesn't absorb it, so it was "logical" that after the official end of summer (Labor Day weekend), you no longer needed to wear white to keep the he...

The Key to a Versatile Closet - Styling One Item FIVE completely different ways!

Most people don't think in terms of building a "wardrobe".  When out shopping, most people see something really pretty that they like and get drawn in without taking into consideration what they already have in their wardrobe.  I know that as a Stylist, I fall into this trap commonly.  I see all of the pretty things when I am shopping online or in-person and it's hard to hold back!  Even I must talk myself "off of the ledge" to impulse buying! There are a couple of different approaches to building a wardrobe.  If you prefer to have a "leveraged" closet, you may want to choose one base neutral color and build around that.  That is not how you HAVE to however.  If you prefer more options, you can have a few different base neutrals and go from there.  So, how might these both look? If you prefer more of a capsule-type wardrobe, you would choose your one base neutral.  This could be Navy, Black, Tan, or Chocolate Brown.  You would add denim ...

The Power of Saying YES to YOU!

Living life is a series of lessons in growth.  The one thing that is a constant in life is CHANGE.  If we don't allow ourselves to learn and grow, we can find ourselves extremely lost because evolution in life happens whether we choose to evolve with it or not.  That can leave us feeling very overwhelmed. As women, another area we tend to overlook or move down on the list is our own personal development and growth.  We "do, do, do" for everyone else and tend to leave nothing for ourselves.  We leave ourselves no time for things that fill us up and that leaves us ... lacking.  We lack energy, motivation, and in our own self-value and self-worth.   That can show up in several ways.  Do you identify with any of these: Lack of motivation Lack of fulfillment and lack of passion Feeling your relationships are being neglected Neglecting your passions and the things that light you up Feeling "stuck" in life, like every day is Groundhog's Day Overly c...
